If you are looking for grounds up information on this subject then this book is NOT for you. This book is for you if you are an advanced practicing embedded engineer and know a lot about wireless LAN already. There's hardly any theoretical information, this is a hands-on book all about the hardware and the code. The book was not what I expected and I had to return it, but this book could be quite useful to someone with previous experience in these areas. Also the book is really quite steeply priced.

Описание:
The Universal Serial Bus (USB) specification is a boon for users in that it makes the process of connecting peripherals to computers effortless, in most cases. As is often the case with user-friendliness, though, the cosmetic ease comes about as a result of behind-the-scenes complexity. USB Design by Example explains what USB means to hardware developers, taking an approach that combines academic elucidation of the official specification with some experimental setups. Though not everything a hardware developer could wish for, John Hyde's explanations represent a valuable supplement to the notably obtuse specification documents. This book does a good job of explaining USB input/output from both the hardware and software perspectives. You'll find both driver code and pinout diagrams here. All the software information has to do with the IBM-compatible PC platform and the Windows 98 operating system, so Macintosh developers will have to look elsewhere. Some of Hyde's explanations of how various hardware companies solved USB problems--Symbol Technologies' use of a keyboard emulator for its barcode scanners, for example--are intriguing, but more information (in the form of circuit diagrams, preferably) would be better. The clear explanation of what happens when a new device is plugged into a live USB bus is very intriguing, though. Overall, peripheral developers will find this book useful, but not encyclopedic. --David Wall Topics covered: Universal Serial Bus (USB) architecture, packet contents, device detection, drivers and run-time software, and bridging older connection specifications (RS-232, parallel, SCSI and I2C) to USB.

This is an excellent text for hands-on, direct, information regarding Op-Amp design. The beginning chapters give a review towards op-amps, so education and experience in circuit analysis and theories is required. Continuing chapters go over design, measurement and calculations in a high level of detail in excellent stages.
The only criticism is the authors writing style, which is complex and elaborate. After a few pages this is overcome and concepts, points and pitfalls are understood.
Definite a book for engineers looking to refresh existing knowledge as well as placing another book on their personal library. As a professional Electronic Engineer, I looked to this text for this and found both.

"GCC: The Complete Reference"

Описание:
This is a useful book for those who need in-depth information on GCC, but needs more effort in both writing and editing. There are numerous copy-paste-itis errors, which shows that it was not properly proof-read. It also has passages in various chapters which are nearly duplicates of each other, e.g., two "Multiple Source Files to Executable" passages (pages 70 & 106), and five on "Creating a Shared Library" (73, 110, 132, 144, 165). Admittedly some of the details vary from language to language, but there's no explanation of what these differences are; the passages are merely repeated with minor changes.
There are larger but similar problems with the organization of the book. For example, I would have greatly preferred a logically-organized listing of command-line options to a merely alphabetical order. A reader who wants an alphabetical organization can already get it from the manual. This arrangement also leads to problems with the exposition, e.g., the definition of -MQ assumes the definition of -MT, which it precedes. There are other problems with the order of exposition; for example, there's a two and a half page sample of RTL code on 367-9, which is incomprehensible before the explanation of RTL on pp. 387-417, and badly in need of more detailed exposition even afterwards.
