При этом ничего насчет наиболее распространенных в офисах так называемых IP-камер. Которые в локалку через RJ45 втыкаются, по ней питание и управление получают, сигнал передают.

Это называется POE - Power over Ethernet. Уже есть недорогие коммутаторы с этой функцией. Иногда очень удобно - только одна витая пара к камере и не надо заботиться о наличие 220 у места установки камеры.
