A Brief Introduction to Mathematica
To launch the Mathematica application, open its folder and double-click the Mathematica icon.
This will launch the portion of Mathematica known as the front end.
Mathematica is split up into two pieces - the front end and the kernel.

The purpose of this manual is to help you begin using Mathematica, a mathematical exploration
system in which you can perform calculations, evaluate functions, create graphics,
and develop programs. The manual contains simple examples for you to try. It covers just
the basics, enough to get you started.

Mathematica Course
We’re not attempting an exhaustive survey of Mathematica’s capabilities: we couldn’t come close to doing
justice to that task in the time we have. Equally, there are dozens of specialised uses for Mathematica (in
pure and applied mathematics, physical science, engineering etc.) that we can’t hope to address here (though
some are touched on in our “Case Studies”: see below).
